Oceans as clear as a bathtub, sandy-white beaches for days, sun-kissed skin and gentle breezes… If this is what you’re looking for in a holiday, then a get-away to a tropical island is definitely something that you need to put on your holiday itinerary.
With so many islands all over the world, in both the southern and northern hemispheres to choose from, you’d be forgiven if you couldn’t make up your mind. So, in this article, we look at three of our favourite island get-aways to (hopefully!) make your decision easier!
St Barts
Starting off in the northern hemisphere, St Barthélemy (or ‘St Barts’ as it’s fashionably called) is situated in the Caribbean. St Barts was primarily a French colony, but the island country has also been under English and Swedish rule. These cultures can still be seen in the architecture and current culture of the island.
The island get-away is known for its beautiful beaches and it’s recommended that you hire a car at the airport so that you can explore them all.
St Barts is known as the preferred get-away for the rich and famous; however, it’s still possible to find good deals when booking a holiday. The only thing is that you start planning your holiday well in advance. The best time to visit the island is from April to June.
Zanzibar
Venturing towards Africa, Zanzibar is an island off the coast of Tanzania. It was once an epicentre of the slave trade and its capital Stone Town bears many stark reminders of this part of the island’s past.
However, now Zanzibar’s economy is based predominantly on tourism with most of the country’s population, making a living off this industry. The island boasts many five-star resorts that cater to their guests’ every need – from mouth-watering banquets at every meal to spa treatments overlooking the spectacular ocean.
If you want to venture out of the resort, there are miles and miles of beaches that you can walk along and – if you want to take home a souvenir or two – traders are offering their wares who walk up and down the beach.
Thailand
Staying in the southern hemisphere but moving towards Asia, Thailand is a country which is surrounded by many islands that are perfect for lazing on and enjoying reading or betting on popular eSports games. Some of the best Thai islands are Koh Phi Phi, Koh Chang, Koh Lanta as well as Koh Lipe. Top destinations include Bangkok, Phuket, Chiang Mai, Chon Buri as well as Ubon Ratchathani.
What makes Thailand so unique is that it’s not just about the pristine beaches and oceans as clear as the eye can see. This country has a very rich culture so visitors can intersperse their beach time with experiencing the vibrant culture.
If it’s a relaxing holiday that you’re after then, an island holiday is definitely something that you need to go for. There’s something about the whole vibe of an island that makes you instantly relax as soon as your touch down.
