Being able to travel without worrying about money is one of the luxuries that many wealthier people take for granted, but it’s one that many of lower classes wish for more than anything. Not everyone has the money to pay for a fancy hotel for a month or even week at a time, and those with low incomes or savings who also want to travel will need to find a way to bring in some extra income during their travels.
Fortunately, this is by no means a new phenomenon, and there are actually quite a few different ways of making some extra money on the side while travelling.
Teaching
This is perfect for the traveller that has a set of skills that they want to offer to people around them. If can be teaching a language, how to grow food, how to fix a car or computer, or whatever kind of skill will be available to someone out there. These skills can be taught in exchange for food, goods, or even other skills as an exchange, so it’s a good idea to try and learn a few skills that people across the world will find valuable in some way.
Online Freelancing
Another great way of making money while on the go is by making use of online freelancing. This can be in the form of anything done through the internet, including programming, writing, teaching, and much more. A digital nomad is a person who uses their laptop as their main source of income, and it allows them to travel all over the world without having to worry about looking for work on a local level.
Programming is perhaps one of the most popular freelancing options around, but it does mean that you will have to take the time to learn how to program, which can sometimes take years. Regardless, there are dozens of different ways of making money online, including translation, virtual assistance, making videos, playing games, and more.
Reselling Goods
Another way you can make some extra cash online is by purchasing small and cheap goods at a local market, for example, and then reselling those goods online with a small markup. This can be especially successful if you choose goods that are unique to a specific location and can be sourced cheaply, which is why small and local markets are the best bet.
This can be taken one step further by instead making the goods yourself, which can be quite profitable when you use locally sourced items, like shells, which are free to pick up and turn into jewellery.
Seasonal Work
As the name implies, this is work that depends on the specific season, but almost always involves harvesting some kind of produce. This might mean that you head out in the morning and collect a certain amount of fruit or other produce that a farmer needs picked. This can pay surprisingly well, but sometimes the farmer might offer room and board instead of money for your labour.
