Just because you’re working on a tight budget doesn’t mean that it isn’t possible to see all the countries your heart desires! While you most certainly won’t be staying in 5-star hotels, all you’ll need is a plane ticket, your passport and backpack, some spending money, and plenty of wanderlust!

Work and Save

The first step to traveling on a budget is working and saving! If you’re a full-time student, get a part-time job and save all the money you make. Once you’ve got enough for your plane ticket, work for a few more months to have enough for spending money.

Pack Sparingly

Only take clothes which are versatile and hardy and leave all sentimental items behind. You’ll be carrying everything you have with you so the lighter the pack, the easier the journey will be.

Go Camping

While hostels are perfect for backpackers, the costs can add up quickly, so be sure to plan much of your trip around campsites in the area you’ll be visiting. For example, if you visit Europe, rather spend your money on hopping from country to country instead of formal accommodation.

Book a Hostel with a Kitchen

When booking a hostel, be sure to only go for the ones with a kitchen. Visit a local supermarket to purchase ingredients and make your own food instead. Eating at restaurants will most certainly not be in the budget.

Take Your Own Snacks Along

You’ll likely spend plenty of time walking – the perfect opportunity for online betting on the go – while backpacking across a few countries, which makes snacking imperative. However, finding suitable snacks may be difficult in a foreign country especially if you don’t speak the language and packaging may be deceiving. Bring your own snacks from home instead.

Buy a Train Pass

Public transport will become your best friend in whichever country you plan on visiting and buying a train pass will be cheaper than buying individual tickets.

Walk Everywhere

While taking a cab is a lot more convenient, the expense will quickly diminish your already limited budget. Instead, get to know a city by walking it. If safety is a concern, always travel in a group and split the cab fare if it’s absolutely necessary.

Be Careful of Opportunists

Pickpockets and scam artists are a reality in any country and it’s important to be vigilant at all times. Trust your gut and if something doesn’t feel right, get out of there immediately.

Buy a Bottle

While bars and restaurants are a great way to meet new people, the cost of buying drinks the whole night will likely be prohibitive. Instead, head to the local bottle store for your drink of choice and indulge a bit before heading out, only buying a drink or two at the local bar.

Travel in a Group

Many hostels and travel companies offer discounts on group bookings, so don’t head out on your own. Brings friends from home or get to know fellow tourists on your journey and travel together. You may just make a new friend for life!
