There is a lot to see in South Africa. So much, in fact, that would-be travellers may just have difficulty deciding. That’s why we decided to make a list of our top 5. Though, it should be kept in mind that seeing all 5 in one trip will involve a bit of cross country traveling of its own.
Kruger National Park
You’ve probably already heard of it, and it may already be on your bucket list. The Kruger National Park is world renowned, offering some of the most incredible ‘up close and personal’ interactions with African wildlife it’s possible to have. It is located about a 3 to 4 hour drive from Johannesburg, so be prepared for a bit of a trip.
The big attraction of the Kruger National Park is, of course, the Big Five. More specifically, rhino, elephant, lion, leopard and buffalo. Yes, you will very likely see them, and so much more.
Cape Town
It is difficult to point to one specific location in Cape Town. Rather, the entire city is itself a buffet of incredible tourist delights. From the ever famous Table Mountain, to the waddling penguins at False Bay, it is all enough to take your breath away, and keep taking it away, until you are forced to travel back home.
After exploring the natural wonders, be sure to visit the Victoria and Alfred Waterfront, which offers all the luxurious dining and entertainment you could ask for, including great games for players.
Stellenbosch, Western Cape
From the trendy streets of Cape Town, to the ancient roads and picturesque countryside of Stellenbosch, there is certainly plenty to see in South Africa. The biggest draw cards of Stellenbosch are, without question, the long preserved buildings that date back to an era long forgotten.
To put it another way, Stellenbosch is a remaining pocket of the Dutch East India Company era, with much of the architecture dating back to that time. It creates a wonderful landscape that will no doubt appeal to dedicated history buffs. Plus, many of the best restaurants in the country are also located here, so foodies will have just as pleasant an experience.
Drakensberg
Located in KwaZulu-Natal, the Drakensberg Mountains are one of the hottest tourist destinations in the country for a reason. To put it mildly, the Dragon Mountains are utterly breath-taking, and a tourist could well find themselves falling in love with this harsh, but magnificent country.

Cage Diving
Last on our list is an activity, rather than a location. Yes, cage diving with great white sharks has become one of the country’s most popular activities. Though, just in case you didn’t already figure it out, it isn’t for the squeamish. The activity is available at Mossel Bay, Gansbaai, Simon’s Town, and at Seal Island. You don’t even need a diving license, since there isn’t technically any diving. What you do need, though, is nerves of steel.
